Fam Tour Spain
Spain Fam Tour

Several Location Managers and Scouts travelled to Spain along with Production and Studio personnel on a Fam Tour in October of 2006. The Spain Film Commission, and Beatriz Marfà-Linley of the Spanish Trade Commission put together the trip. Beatriz personally showed us some of the country's unique locations, production facilities, services, and programs.
Though the whirlwind tour was limited to stops in the Central, Southern, and Eastern Coastal Areas, there was much to see. Among the cities and regions visited were: Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Carmona, the Costa del Sol -- specifically Marbella and Malaga, Valencia and Barcelona. We travelled by air, high speed train, and bus.
We visited the impressive state-of-the-art production facility in Alicante. Opened in 2005, Ciudad de la Luz bills itself as "the most modern studios in Europe". It's certainly among the busiest, hosting twenty-six productions in its first three years. The architecture of the complex is the work of Gary Bastien, an American who remodeled studios for Paramount, DreamWorks, and Warner Bros. The complex also benefits from a dry mediterrenean climate, and a spectacular coastline.
We stayed in the historic Andalusian hill town of Carmona, where we walked the narrow streets, toured a palatial private home, and dined at the Parador, housed in a 14th century Moorish castle.Carmona has an active film office, and has served as a backdrop for dozens of feature films.

Barcelona is one of Europe's most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities, and we saw aspects of it from Medieval to Futuristic. We were also very taken with the Calatrava designed City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia. We met with production services, locations people and diginitaries at many of the towns we visited, and enjoyed top-shelf accomodations and dining throughout our trip.
