ALEXANDER PAYNE, HASKELL WEXLER AND SCOTT DEWEES TO RECEIVE HONORARY AWARDS AT THE

LOCATION MANAGERS GUILD OF AMERICA AWARDS, SATURDAY MARCH 29

 

LOS ANGELES, March 5, 2014 – Two-time Academy Award winners Alexander Payne and Haskell Wexler, as well as premiere commercial location scout Scott Dewees, have been selected by the Board of Directors of the Location Managers Guild of America (LMGA) to be honored with the organization’s first Honorary Awards. The awards to be presented are The Eva Monley Award to Alexander Payne, the Humanitarian Award to Haskell Wexler and the Lifetime Achievement Award to Scott Dewees, at the Inaugural Location Managers Guild of America Awards, it was announced today by LMGAPresident, Nancy Haecker. The Awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 29 at the Writers Guild Theatre.

Two-time Academy Award®-winning director, producer and screenwriter Alexander Payne will receive the prestigious Eva Monley Award (description below) because he understands the power of good locations to enhance his story telling. Payne’s distinguished work includes the revered films Nebraska, The Descendants, Sideways, About Schmidt and Election.

Payne’s latest film, Nebraska, was nominated this year for six Oscars®. For his work on The Descendants, Payne received an Academy Award® and two nominations. He also won a Writers Guild Award, a Golden Globe nomination, two BAFTA nominations, an AFI Award, a Directors Guild nomination, an Independent Spirit Award and nomination, in addition to numerous other awards.

For Sideways, Payne’s many accolades include an Academy Award® and nomination. Among Payne’s many awards, he won a Golden Globe®, a BAFTA Award, a Directors Guild nomination, a Writers Guild Award and an Independent Spirit Award and nomination.
The Humanitarian Award will be presented to two-time Academy Award®-winning Director of Photography Haskell Wexler, who was judged one of the ten most influential cinematographers in movie history by an International Cinematographers Guild survey of its members. He won Oscars® for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf? and Bound for Glory, in addition to Oscar® nominations for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (with Bill Butler,1976), Blaze and Matewan, along with many other awards for these films.

In addition to his masterful cinematography, Wexler has directed and/or shot many documentaries that display his progressive political views. He was the subject of the 2004 documentary Tell Them Who You Are, shot by his son, Mark Wexler. He is one of only six cinematographers to have a star on the famed Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Wexler’s many honors include the Living Legends Award from the Beverly Hills Film Festival (2009), the Governor’s Award by the Society of Camera Operators (2007), a Career Achievement Award from the International Documentary Association (2006), a Lifetime Achievement Award from Camerimage ((1996), in addition to a Lifetime Achievement Award by The American Society of Cinematographers (1993).
The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to well-respected Commercial Location Scout Scott Dewees, who won two COLA’s (California On-Location Awards). His body of work represents the highest level of professionalism over the course of his illustrious career.

Additional awards will be given to honor location professionals who excel in their craft and whose work is visually evident in the final product, to outstanding film commissions, as well as producers, studios and production companies for exceptional locations in feature films and television programs.

SHERI DAVIS

Sheri Davis, Director of the Inland Empire Film Commission, has been selected to be honored with the prestigious Trailblazer Award. The Trailblazer Award celebrates someone who has been a leader in his or her field and furthers the recognition of the Location Professional in motion picture and television production. Davis was selected to receive this award for her vision of focusing long-overdue attention to the world of film and TV Location Professionals, who play a vital role in the production industry. While championing this cause, Davis was primarily responsible for the creation of the California On-Location Awards (COLA) that annually honors Location Professionals for their work in print, commercials, television and features in the state of California. She continues her tireless efforts to promote filming in the Inland Empire. The award will be presented at the 1st Annual Location Managers Guild of America Awards on Saturday, March 29 at the Writers Guild Theater.

SCOTT DEWEES

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to well-respected Commercial Location Scout Scott Dewees, who won two COLA’s (California On-Location Awards).  His body of work represents the highest level of professionalism over the course of his illustrious career.
