For the first time ever, Location Managers will be front and center at the AFCI Location Show, which will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Friday-Saturday, June 15-16, 2012.
On Friday, from 4:45 to 5:30 PM, Location Managers will participate in The Location Mavericks SuperSession, a panel discussion moderated by Peter Caranicas, Deputy Editor at Variety. Top location managers and film commissioners will explore how the best chosen locations; dramatic landscapes, vibrant native cultures and dynamic visual themes often become stars in their own right. Certain locations can also offer a tremendous upside via their incentives initiatives. These location mavericks will share their stories about filmmaking in the U.S. and around the world. This panel is the “Grand Finale” of the prestigious Variety BRIC sessions. Panelists for this session include: Tony Salome – Location Manager, LMGA for NCIS: Los Angeles, Lori Balton – Location Scout, LMGA (Dark Knight Rises, The Lone Ranger, Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides) and President of the Location Manager Guild of America (LMGA), Nancy Haecker – Location Manager, LMGA (House, Into the Wild), Douglas Dresser – Production Supervisor/Location Manager, LMGA (Hunger Games, The Kite Runner) and Mike Fantasia – Location Manager, LMGA (Amazing Spider-Man and Green Hornet).
On Saturday, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM, the LMGA presents, Getting The Most Out Of Your Creative Team. Moderated by Hollywood Reporter film writer Borys Kit, this panel discussion focuses on the teamwork between Location Managers, Production Designers, Cinematographers and VFX Supervisors in creating a unique onscreen environment. Revealing how the best visionary teams work and communicate, the panel will look at how each member of the team approaches locations – as well as how technological advances might impact the way we work in the future. Panelists include Dow Griffith – Location Manager, LMGA (The Bourne Legacy, The Last Airbender), John Schwartzman – Director of Photography, ASC (The Amazing Spider Man, The Green Hornet, Seabiscuit), John Myhre – Production Designer, ADG, (Memoirs of a Geisha, Chicago, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), Rob Legato – Visual Effects Supervisor (Hugo, The Aviator, Titanic), Jay Redd – Visual Effects Supervisor (Men in Black III), Alex McDowell – Production Designer (Man of Steel, Watchman, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory) and Mike Fantasia – Location Manager, LMGA (Amazing Spider-Man and Green Hornet).
