NY and Boston LoveMaking an independent movie is only half the battle. Film festivals are critical for filmmakers, especially independent filmmakers since they don’t have access to the studio publicity machine. We asked Location Pro and independent Producer Kathy McCurdy to give us an update on the status of her first feature film,  “I Was A Teenage Superhero Sidekick.”

“First of all, I want to thank the LMGA for your support. Your coverage really helps us as we enter the Festival Circuit. (http://locationmanagers.org/kathy-mccurdy-on-i-was-a-teenage-superhero-sidekick/)

We had a lovely Christmas surprise, finding out a couple days before Christmas that the film was accepted into the Boston Science Fiction Film festival for Feb 2015.   We also got into another New York City film festival, New Filmmakers NY, which is wonderful because the writer/director is from New York. (Home-state love is always awesome.)  NFNY screens it on Feb 24.

It’s an odd impersonal process which is at once cool and weird.  You fill out the forms for each festival and pay a submission fee. You mail your screener in or upload itto Withoutabox, which is the online standard for submitting to film festivals. Next comes The Wait.

We don’t know the folks who run or program the festivals–  the work has to stand on its on.  “I Was A Teenage Superhero Sidekick,” must have connected with the programmers at NYC Independent, New Filmmakers NY and Boston Sci Fi which is exactly what we had hoped for.

It’s like getting your college acceptance letter, I think.  There is dancing.  There is hugging.  Lots of excitement.  Lots of gratitude.

I hope the movie continues to connect with programmers and audiences – and eventually an acquisitions rep.

Thanks for checking in.”
