The LOCATION MANAGERS GUILD INTERNATIONAL (LMGI) announces the 6th Annual LMGI Awards, honoring the outstanding and creative visual contributions of location professionals and film commissions in film, television and commercials, will be held on September 21, 2019 at The Broad Stage in Santa Monica.
Nominations have been announced.
Awards will be presented in the following categories: Contemporary Film, Period Film, Contemporary TV, Period TV, Commercials and Film Commissions. Honorary Awards include the Humanitarian, Lifetime Achievement, Trailblazer and the Eva Monley Award. Eligible productions must feature locations that are artistically integral to the story being told, and Location Professionals nominated must have demonstrated an innate understanding that the proper location is not only a backdrop for action, but also sets tone, reveals character, and enhances the narrative.
Emmy®-winning director Claire Scanlon (The Office, Set It Up, The Last Man on Earth), Oscar® -nominated producer Duncan Henderson (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Dead Poets Society), Clara Le, Commercial Director The Location Guide/FOCUS/ makers, joinOscar and Emmy -winning actress Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous, American Crime, Jerry Maguire), Emmy-winning actress Holland Taylor (Legally Blonde, Two and a Half Men, The Practice, The Truman Show),and Joe Mantegna (The Godfather: Part lll, Criminal Minds, The Simpsons)to present at the LMGI Awards ceremony, hosted by TV host AJ Gibson.
Acclaimed Oscar®-nominated director Peter Weir (Witness, Dead Poets Society, The Truman Show, Master and Commander) will receive the Eva Monley Award, which recognizes and honors industry members who support the work of location professionals. Location manager Michael J. Meehan (Dead Poets Society, The Perfect Storm, Pirates of the Caribbean, Master and Commander) will receive the 2019 LMGI Lifetime Achievement Award. Hidden Empire Film Group (Deon Taylor, Roxanne Avent and Robert F. Smith) will accept the Humanitarian Award.
CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE ON LOCATION WORLDWIDE
THE LMGI AWARDS are an internationally recognized celebration of the outstanding contributions of location professionals in feature films, television and commercial advertising. The Awards spotlight our craft, honoring productions in which the creative use of filming locations set the tone, enrich the character and inspire the storytelling narrative. Film commissions are celebrated for their exemplary service and additional honorees include recipients of the Eva Monley Award, the Humanitarian Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Trailblazer Award.
This year brought the LMGI our biggest challenge to date! We received over one hundred qualified submissions from around the world, each one better than the next in its capacity to demonstrate how locations enrich the art of filmmaking. Refining these submissions to a field of finalists was arduous and challenging.
Nominees for the 6th Annual Location Managers Guild International (LMGI) Awards have been announced. The awards honor the outstanding and creative visual contributions by location professionals and film commissions in film, television and commercials from around the globe. The LMGI Awards also recognize outstanding service by film commissions for their support “above and beyond” during the production process. With the change in date of this year’s LMGI Awards from April to September, the 6th Annual LMGI Awards timeline is unique in that there is an 18-month calendar of eligibility. Productions that were first released between January 1, 2018, and May 31, 2019, are eligible. Winners will be revealed during the formal ceremony on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica.
HONOREES AND PRESENTERS We are honored to have industry powerhouse Regina King join our slate of presenters at the 2019 LMGI Awards. Past LMGI Awards honorees and presenters include industry luminaries Wes Anderson, Alexander Payne, Danny Boyle, Haskell Wexler, Christopher Guest, Michael Mann, Brad Silberling, Joe Pytka, Jeff Goldblum, Billy Crystal, Dennis Haysbert, Melanie Mayron, Amy Brenneman, Netflix VP Ty Warren, and author/producer Michael Connelly.
