Oscar-winning director Spike Lee,<\/b> whose films have reflected significant cultural and historical content with the highest quality, will receive the esteemed Trailblazer Award<\/strong> from the Location Managers Guild International<\/strong> (LMGI) at the 7th<\/sup> Annual LMGI Awards<\/strong> celebrating the theme \u201c2020 Vision<\/i>: We See It First.\u201d <\/i>The 2020 Awards, hosted by Isaiah Mustafa, will honor the prestigious spectrum of Lee\u2019s extraordinary award-winning work over the past three decades on Saturday, October 24 at 2:00 PM PST during a virtual ceremony. The announcement was made today by LMGI President Mike Fantasia and Awards Co-Chairs Lori Balton and John Rakich.<\/p>\n

Awards Co-chair and former LMGI President Lori Balton comments, “We are especially grateful that Mr. Lee has brought so much diverse talent into the industry. Actors like Samuel Jackson, Rosie Perez and Giancarlo Esposito, but also so many of us working behind the scenes\u2014Wynn Thomas, Ruth Carter, Ernest Dickerson and Brent Owens to name a few.\u00a0 He is a Trailblazer on a number of levels.”<\/p>\n

Spike Lee is an award-winning film director, producer, screenwriter and actor. His production company,\u00a040 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, has produced more than 35 films since 1983. Lee’s work has continually explored\u00a0race relations,\u00a0colorism\u00a0in the Black community, the role of media in contemporary life, urban crime and poverty, and other political issues. He has won numerous\u00a0accolades<\/a>\u00a0for his work, including an\u00a0Academy Award, a\u00a0BAFTA Award, two\u00a0Emmy\u00ae Awards, two\u00a0Peabody Awards, and the\u00a0Cannes\u00a0Grand Prix. He has also received an\u00a0Academy Honorary Award, an\u00a0Honorary BAFTA Award, an\u00a0Honorary C\u00e9sar, and the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize among many others.<\/p>\n

Lee made his\u00a0directorial debut\u00a0in 1986 with\u00a0She’s Gotta Have It<\/i> and has since written and directed such films as\u00a0Do the Right Thing<\/i>, Mo’ Better Blues<\/i>,\u00a0Jungle Fever, Malcolm X<\/i>,\u00a0He Got Game<\/i>,\u00a025th Hour<\/i>, Inside Man<\/i>, Chi-Raq,<\/i>\u00a0BlacKkKlansman<\/i>\u00a0and,\u00a0most recently, Da 5 Bloods<\/i>. Lee also acted in ten of his films.<\/p>\n

Lee’s films\u00a0Do the Right Thing<\/i>,\u00a0Malcolm X<\/i>,\u00a04 Little Girls<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0She’s Gotta Have It<\/i>\u00a0were each selected by the\u00a0Library of Congress\u00a0for preservation in the\u00a0National Film Registry\u00a0for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”<\/p>\n

Final online balloting for the LMGI Awards will be held August 1-10, 2020 and winners will be announced at the virtual awards ceremony on Saturday, October 24 at 2:00 PM PST. The LMGI Awards honor the outstanding and creative visual contributions by location professionals in film, television and commercials from around the globe. The LMGI Awards also recognize outstanding service by film commissions for their support \u201cabove and beyond\u201d during the production process.
