Location Manager/Scout Robert Mendel has taken on the immense task of creating a collection of Location Scout folders to present to potential archival groups.
I’m organizing two major collections of files to donate to a university or museum. Over the past 25 years, hundreds if not thousands of scouts have documented Los Angeles. Some of us still are in possession of many of our photographs. We’ve lost many of our favorite film locations due to remodelling or demolition such as the Ambassador Hotel, The Quality Cafe, Sportsmen’s Lodge, and we now we are losing the 6th Street bridge.
The Getty expressed interest in our first meeting but to consider the collection I need to organize it. I’m going to use the California Film Commission indexing system to amalgamate the two collections and show the Getty curators a sampling. Not sure when this will happen, it’s a huge undertaking.
