11th Annual LMGI Awards Submission FAQs

Do you have to be an LMGI member to make a submission?

No, the Award submission process is open to the worldwide location and production communities. Submissions will be accepted from LMGI members and business partners, film commissions, location professionals, industry professionals and vendors, studios, and production companies.  Submissions are also accepted from individuals not associated with the project.

There is no submission fee.

Can you nominate yourself?

Absolutely! You know best, as the location professional, what you brought to this project and why. You understand the creative process and how locations set the tone, enrich the character, and enhance the narrative.

Can a location team be nominated?

The LMGI Awards are not team awards. While we understand the importance of the location team, the focus of the LMGI Awards is to honor the visual contribution locations make to the production. Nominated location professionals who are eligible for an Award are those who contributed creatively to the locations that are integral to the story rather than the logistical challenges faced by the team. The SLM may accept the award on behalf of all or share with others who also contributed artistically. Supporting team members are eligible for Honorary Certificates should the project win. The final determination of potential Award Recipients will be made by the Awards Committee during the final vetting process.

What if you don’t know all the information requested in the submission application?

Please fill out the form with as much information as you can, providing as many names and as much contact detail as possible. Answer “I don’t know” if relevant. If the Awards committee cannot verify the entry, it may be disqualified. All questions in bold must be answered to submit the form.

What kinds of projects are eligible for consideration?

The LMGI honors the work of Location Professionals in scripted Television, Film and Commercial productions. Film Commissions are honored for their above and beyond assistance for scripted productions that have filmed within their jurisdiction. Reality or Documentary programs are not eligible.

Does the project have to have aired or been released in 2023 or 2024?

Entries first released between June 2, 2023 and June 1, 2024, are eligible.

How much of the production has to be filmed on location for a project to qualify for an LMGI Award?

At least 60% of the project must have been filmed on location. Once a submission has been received, the Awards committee will begin the vetting process by contacting members of the production team to verify eligibility.  Second unit location days and VFX unit location days may also be considered part of the qualifying percentage of days.

Does the submitted project have to be in English?

No. If the submission is in a language other than English, it must be available to view with subtitles.

Does the submitted project have to be available for the Awards committee to view?

Yes. If the Awards Committee cannot view the project on available platforms, it will not be eligible.

Is there a specific format required for submitted clips or trailers?

Yes, we only accept videos from YouTube or Vimeo formats.

Who reviews the submissions?

The Awards Committee receives and reviews all Submissions. All Submissions  are confidential, but the name of the submitter may be shared with others on the project.

What is the actual Submission process?

Anyone can make a submission. The Awards committee will review each submission to confirm that the basic criteria for eligibility have been met, and then determine up to twenty titles in each category that best meet the creative criteria.

What is the actual Voting process?

There are two rounds of voting. Up to 20 titles in each category will be listed in alphabetical order on the ballot for the first round of nomination voting that opens on June 2, 2024 and closes on June 11, 2024 at 11:59 PM PDT.

LMGI members in good standing can vote for up to five (5) titles in each category. The five (5) titles receiving the highest number of votes in each category will become the Final Nominees for the second round of voting. Online Final Voting begins Sunday, July 14, 2024.  LMGI Location Professionals in good standing are eligible to vote for one title per category.  Voting will close on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 11:59 PM PDT.
