WINTER 2025 (Click on cover photo to view issue)

“Winter is not a season, it’s a celebration.”

–ANAMIKA MISHRA

The winds may blow cold, or the winds may blow warm, but in both the north and south hemispheres, we all take a breath to enjoy the holidays. It is a time to celebrate, contemplate and reflect on accomplishments of the past year and what we hope to achieve in the next. Yet the warmth of gathering with our families and friends quickly dissipates if one is called to work on a story that is set in the coldest of climes!

In this issue, we celebrate the unique skill set and resilience of our hardy members who deliver the perfect “look” by enduring long dark nights, heavy snowfall and the treacherous ice.

In our cover story, “Into the Darkness: Surviving to Tell the Tale,” Shaun O’Banion takes us deep into Iceland’s frigid landscape where LMGI business partner Truenorth manages the creative and logistical complexities of bringing HBO’s True Detective: Night Country to the screen.

Chris Evans talks to location professionals who have bravely faced the elements in our cover story’s companion piece, “The Challenges of Working in Cold Weather Conditions.”

To temper the cold, and with a nod to our friends in the southern hemisphere, “In the News” chronicles Fam Tours to Mallorca, Palms Springs and Kyushu. The sun shines in the stunning images our participating members have shared.

We also highlight the LMGI’s “woman behind the curtain” as Erika Howard takes on a new position as Director of Communications and Operations. Her skill and dedication inspire the Guild’s ambitious agenda and keep the organization on track.

We pause to honor cherished friends and colleagues who we lost this past year with “In Memoriam.”  They will be sorely missed.

A watery reflection of the Hague, Netherlands, captured by LM/scout Oliver Crawford in our “Martini Shot” poignantly wraps up this year’s winter issue.

So, as we bid farewell to 2024, we wish you and your families all the warmth of the holiday season, and the promise of better days ahead, in no matter which hemisphere you call home!

Until next time,
