David Fincher’s The Killer is out on Netflix now

David Fincher’s The Killer is out on Netflix now. We caught up with LMGI member Boni Canto /LMGI to chat with him about his work on The Killer and what it was like to collaborate with Fincher. He shares "Working on The Killer was extremely rewarding in various aspects, thanks to the meticulous preparation led by Mr. Fincher. Upon joining the project, the director had already conducted a thorough location scouting in the Dominican Republic during the Covid pandemic. This foresight was invaluable, as we had certainty about the permits to be obtained, necessary hires, and precautions required at each location. The abundant and precise information ensured that everything during the filming unfolded as planned, without last-minute surprises, something uncommon in the industry.

It's worth noting that the choice of the beach house in Río San Juan, filmed during the project, was a discovery by Fincher. During a previous vacation with his wife, he stumbled upon the house while strolling along the beach and fell in love with it. This location turned out to be one of the decisive reasons for choosing to film in the country.

In terms of cultural challenges, coordinating with city authorities to delay the installation of Christmas decorations on the streets was a significant process. Since the filming took place in December, just before the holiday season, achieving this adjustment was akin to a feat. While it might be easier in other countries, in our nation, where we are still getting accustomed to outdoor shoots, navigating the bureaucracy to persuade the department responsible for Christmas street decorations was a considerable challenge.

Overall, the unprecedented collaboration of all authorities and individuals involved was highly satisfactory. However, the most important aspect was the valuable learning experience, both professionally and for our country, in tackling a project of such high demands."
