International filmmakers gather in Spain, hosted by LMGI business partner Feria de Valladolid, along with the Valladolid Film Commission and the Spain Film Commission, for another spectacular event!
Location managers, scouts, production executives and designers from around the world journeyed to the city of Valladolid in Spain’s north central region of Castilla y Léon for the expanded 4th Annual Shooting Locations Marketplace (SLM) to meet and mingle with regional film commissioners, hotel and service providers, and location representatives from all over Europe.
Known as “the land of the castles,” Castilla y León is the birthplace of the Spanish language, home to medieval monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella, and a part of the winding route of the Way of Saint James pilgrimage. With more World Heritage sites and cities than anywhere in the world, along with its generous tax incentives, it is no wonder that the SLM has positioned itself in this region and has become such an essential destination for international filmmakers in such a short time.
Sponsored by the Junta de Castilla y León and Valladolid City Council and organized by the Feria de Valladolid’s International Development coordinator Carolina Yepes and her team, the popular two-day October event hosts seminars, meetings and social gatherings.
“Carolina Yepes is the meticulous organizer behind it all and continues to outdo herself year after year!” says Michael Glaser/LMGI. “The event combines a conference where like-minded filmmakers and location professionals can meet with regional film commissions of Spain and a growing number of other countries.”
On hand to promote filming in their regions were representatives from Flanders, Tyrol, Central Macedonia, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Hessen, Saxony, New Aquitaine, Brittany, the cities of London, Vilnius, Cascais, Vienna, as well as Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Portugal, Jordan, France, Egypt and Norway.
“At Shooting Locations Marketplace, we talk about images,” explains Director General of Feria de Valladolid,
Alberto Alonso, “but its value lies in the word, in the face-to-face conversations that will take place during these two days.” In addition to its partnership with the LMGI, SLM has partnered with Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI), the European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN), the Production Guild of Great Britain (PGGB), Crew United and the European Producers Club (EPC).
Yepes hopes that SLM 2025 slated for this coming October will be even bigger and better. “Our plans are to continue increasing the international presence of other film commissions and film studios and production services. We are also adding to the Fam Tour list an international destination to be unveiled soon, so stay tuned! Our roundtables will be tackling the process of location scouting of the trendiest shows and new destinations will be showcased!”
