10th Annual LMGI Awards FAQs

10th Annual LMGI Awards Submission FAQ

Do you have to be an LMGI member to make a submission?

No, the Award submission process is open to the worldwide location and production communities.  Submissions will be accepted from LMGI members and business partners, film commissions, location professionals, industry professionals and vendors, studios, and production companies.  Submissions are also accepted from individuals not associated with the project. There is no submission fee.

Do you have to be an LMGI member to vote on the nominees?

Yes, only LMGI members in good standing can vote. To learn more about the Guild and how to become a member, please visit our website at LocationManagers.org.

Can you nominate yourself?

Absolutely! You know best, as the location professional, what you brought to this project and why. You understand the creative process and how locations set the tone, enrich the character, and enhance the narrative.

Does the submitted project have to be in English?

No. But if the submission is in a language other than English, it must have subtitles.

Does the submitted project have to be available for the Awards committee to view?

Yes. If the Awards committees can not view the project on available platforms, it will not be eligible.

Can a location team be nominated?

While we understand the importance of the location team, the focus of the LMGI Awards is to honor the visual contribution locations make to the production.  Therefore, nominated location professionals who are eligible for an Award are those who contributed creatively to the locations that are integral to the story.

Supporting team members are eligible for Honorary Certificates should the project win.

Does the project have to have aired or been released in 2022 or 2023?

Entries first released between June 2, 2022 and June 1, 2023 are eligible.

When does the submission period open/close?

The Entry Submission Period will open April 3rd, 2023 and will close Sunday, May 21st, 2023 at 11:59 PM PDT. Please don’t hesitate to submit an entry as early as possible.

What is the actual Awards process?

Anyone can make a submission.  The Awards committee will review each submission to confirm that the basic criteria have been met. The submission will then move on to the Nomination Round of voting.  Nomination voting will be open to LMGI members in good standing on June 2, 2023, and will close June 11, 2023.  Titles will be listed by category in alphabetical order for LMGI members to vote on their top 5 titles. The five (5) submissions receiving the highest number of votes in each category will become the nominees for the final voting. In the event of a tie for the 5th position, the category will increase to (6) nominees.

Nominees in each category will be announced Friday June 30th, 2023.

Online Final Voting begins Friday, July 14, 2023.  LMGI Location Professionals in good standing are eligible to vote for one title per category.  Voting will close on Monday, July 24, 2023 at 11:59 PM PDT. All finalists will be invited to the 10th Annual LMGI Awards gala to be held in Los Angeles in August where the winners will be announced in-person and live-streaming.

How much of the production has to be filmed on location for a project to qualify for an LMGI Award?

At least 60% of the project must have been filmed on location. Once a submission has been received, the Awards committee will begin the vetting process by contacting members of the production team. Second unit location days and VFX unit location days may also be considered part of the qualifying percentage of days.
