Welcome to the 9th Annual LMGI Awards! In the only global awards ceremony dedicated solely to our craft, we celebrate the incredible talent, creativity, and passion that location professionals around the world use to harness the power of place to inspire, ground, and propel the imagination into the real world.
We spark the vision of others into reality, shape dreams into physical form; there truly is something magical in what we do, and this year’s nominated location professionals show us how their creative input into where story happens helps conjure the essence of the narrative, the revelation of character, and the landscape for action.
This year’s awards generated more submissions than any other. We re-instituted two rounds of voting. The first for the semi-finals to determine tonight’s nominees, and the second to decide the winners. The larger slate of semi-finalists also aligned with the Emmy voting process—and as newly minted members of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, we wanted to present more shows for your consideration and entrust the power of the vote to you. To top that off, we had the highest level of membership engagement in all of our voting this year!
We salute our Honorary Award recipients: Legendary cinema director Martin Scorsese will receive our Eva Monley Award; our Humanitarian Award goes to Orlando Bloom for his incredible dedication to making the world a better place as a UN Goodwill Ambassador; the Red Nation Celebration Institute, for creating systemic changes for Native and Indigenous people in media and pop culture, is our Trailblazer Award recipient; and our Lifetime Achievement Award is bestowed upon veteran location manager John Panzarella/LMGI.
Like tonight’s nominees, their drive, their passion, and their vision inspire us all to push ourselves a bit harder, stand a little taller, and be part of the bigger picture.
The Guild exists to support location professionals, the international film community, and its business partners—to connect us, elevate us, and advocate for us. No matter where in the world you work and what your union affiliation is, if you are dedicated to our craft—you belong in the LMGI. And we couldn’t be happier to celebrate with you tonight!
We are gathered at Los Angeles Center Studios, a creative reuse of the 1958 Union Oil Center headquarters built in the International style in the heart of downtown. Adding six large sound stages to its complex, and with the use of its iconic office tower, plaza, and elevated pedestrian bridges as a popular backlot since the late ’90s, the power of this place is rooted firmly in Los Angeles film and television production. It is here where we come together this evening—in person at last—and also to livestream to our global location community.
