Industry professionals are invited to attend the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) Taste of the World Locations Forum on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the W Hollywood Hotel. The event takes place from 2:30pm – 7:30pm.

One of the premier elements to AFCI Week, this event is FREE and open to all industry professionals. Over 50 film commission representatives from around the globe will be representing their jurisdictions, states and countries. Don’t miss this opportunity to ask questions about production incentives, shooting locations, local facilities, infrastructure, crew depth and more with these knowledgeable professionals.

The Magic of Visual Effects
We’ll draw the curtain back to reveal what it takes to create VFX shots that look believable and have the to power to transport you to other worlds. We’ll explore how technology has advanced this facet of filmmaking, why it’s becoming more mainstream, more affordable and more realistic.

5:30 – 6:00 p.m. Award Presentation

The California Golden Slate Award will be presented to NCIS Executive Producer Mark Horowitz (NCIS, JAG, The Rockford Files television movies, Doogie Howser, M.D.). This award honors an individual who champions filming in California and whose body of work has generated thousands of in-state production jobs.

 

Also note that this year, the Film in California Conference will be holding its first ever Photo Contest. Here’s how it works:

 

  • Industry professionals are invited to enter high-res photos to be considered in one of the following categories:
    • Best Sunset
    • Best Urban/City Scape
    • Best Rural/Nature Shot
    • Best Iconic Landmark
    • Best On-Set Behind-the-Scenes Shot
  • The Deadline for photo submissions is April 20th
  • FICC staff will review all submissions and choose the top three in each category to be showcased at the FICC in May
  • Photos will be printed and showcased on the second level of the FICC event venue
  • Attendees will vote on one winner from each category
  • The winners in each category will then compete for the “Best in Show” award, which will be voted on by the audience at the conference during the final presentation

 

Rules:

  • Photos must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi
  • Photos must be of a location in California
  • Email all photo submissions to: Tyler.Algozzino@film.ca.gov.
  • Label the subject of each submission with:  FICC Photo Contest/(your name)/(category)
  • Include the following info with each submission:

– Your name, occupation or title & contact info (email address & cell number)

– Where the photo was taken

– Who/how the picture should be credited

  • Photos must fit into one of the categories noted above
  • One winner will be chosen in each category, and each winner will be presented with a prize
  • A grand prize will be presented to the Best in Show winner
  • By entering, the owner of the photo is giving the California Film Commission and/or FLICS the rights to use the photo for promotional purposes

An addition to this year’s Cineposium is AFCI’s inaugural Business to Business Industry Day, being hosted at NETFLIX. This is a full-day Production Company Showcase where senior executives from major film and television companies will highlight  their location and infrastructure needs up-and-coming projects. We anticipate ten companies will be participating in this program, including YouTube, Amazon, Blumhouse, Starz, Netflix, Crackle, HBO and New Republic Pictures. A separate fee is required.
