Fall 2022

“For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together. For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad.” –Edwin Way Teale

Fall is upon us with its shortening days and golden light. Production has rebounded to dizzying levels in a race to make up for last year’s COVID hiatus and LMGI members have been very busy. Fall is the season of the harvest and with October’s 8th Annual LMGI Awards, it’s also a time for location professionals to reap the benefits of their creative labor.

This fall issue celebrates the creativity and resourcefulness of our members.

In our cover story about The Underground Railroad, writer Nancy Mills takes us behind the scenes with SLM Alison Taylor and her team and explores Taylor’s transformative personal journey while bringing this acclaimed story to the screen. Shaun O’Banion chats with LM Robert Bentley on his work on the thriller Escape Room: Tournament of Champions and his personal “escape” into new territory. In “And the Nominees Are…,” the LMGI Awards Committee gives us an in-depth look at our nominees for the LMGI “Class of 2021.”

Our columns include “In the News” reports on the recent LMGI panels, “Locations Behind the Emmys,” “Comic-Con 2021” and “The Art of Parking”; the recent conference and FamTrip to Greece; the LMGI’s “Summer Celebration” event and Henrik Greisner’s efforts to establish a new film commission office in Germany. Talented scout Ehrin Davis gives us a strikingly different view of San Francisco, CA, in our “Martini Shot.”

Until next time,
