In my photography, I strive to capture the physical and emotional essence of my subjects. On my trip to Indonesia in 2011, I observed a culture with one foot in the past and the other in the present. I wanted to reproduce the picture quality of 1920’s period photographs, yet include some of the trappings of modern life in the subjects.
I processed these photographs in Lightroom, desaturating the color and dialing down the sharpness. I hope that the results evoke the feeling of this magical place.
